NASA has officially released high-resolution images of the Chandrayaan-2 landing site and in a statement said that Vikram Lander had a hard landing.

The released images are of the Chandrayaan-2's Vikram Lander and were captured by the US space agency's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter during a fly-by on September 17th.

While attempting to soft-land on the Moon's surface, Vikram had lost contact with ISRO and these images released show it had a hard landing instead.

The Orbiter captured the images of the area where Vikram was supposed to land, which was between the two craters Maginus and Clavius.

NASA spoke about the lack of visibility of the Lander, saying it could be in a darker region and could be captured in the next fly-by. There is also a possibility that Vikram Lander has shattered due to its crash landing.

The images released currently are of the landing site only. Stay tuned for more information.
