Sahyog App- A Geospatial application to support corona fighters

From road conditions to mobile applications, COVID-19 has changed everything within months. Governments are adopting new ways to collect data and deliver services to citizens. The Ministry of Electronics and IT, India, recently developed a mobile app, Aarogya Setu, to identify the risk of coronavirus in citizens. Now, Survey of India, the apex map maker of the country, has introduced the Sahyog app to compliment Aarogya Setu

The socio-economic distress and livelihood changes need localized data as a support system to get things back on track. Sahyog is useful in developing customizable maps for COVID related applications. The users can share the ground verified data into the GIS domain directly from their Android.

The usefulness of this e-platform

India is a country with a large population. Till now, the government has controlled the spread of the pandemic with the cooperation and coordination of various departments. The SoI’s e-platform will help the public health agencies to make decisions using geotagged information. Mobile application Sahyog will support this platform by collecting location-specific data. The community workers can use it easily and find a swift solution.

It is much better than collecting data through land surveying, which is a lengthy process. Sahyog helps in crowdsourcing data quickly, and the agencies can respond at the right time.

Benefits of using Sahyog app

Since it is complementing the Aarogya Setu app, it becomes easier to trace the contacts of COVID-19 infected persons. The Points of Interest acquired by Sahyog is going to be used for developing applications that will be useful for everyone. The dataset will remain inside the country. Information like containment areas, hotspots and biomedical waste disposals, testing labs, and quarantine camps are being integrated with Sahyog to provide relevant information.

COVID related applications like infection clusters, disaster management, or healthcare facilities can take advantage of this app. The longitudinal and latitudinal information on crucial services will ease the processes involved in fighting COVID.

Sahyog App can be a single platform that has a large amount of geospatial data regarding locations of various services. The government already has information about the location of hospitals, fire services, and more, which can now be integrated into this platform.

The public health delivery systems, which are the most important segment now, can use this data to deal with the challenges. The central and state governments can provide necessary information to the COVID fighters with the Sahyog App.

This support system will get data from the volunteers present on the ground. Doctors, Anganwadi workers, and ASHA (Accelerated Social Health Activist) are some of the volunteers that are feeding data in the app.
Users can download the Sahyog app from Google Play store and register to collect, share, and store ground data. The active support of users will benefit the people and the country.

Downloading the Sahyog app is useful for the present scenario as well as for the future. Once the citizens become tech-friendly and learn how to use such apps, the government can develop more apps for the future during disasters, elections, or emergencies.
