Kymeta Corp. recently acquired Lepton Global Solutions LLC, a Virginia-based satellite services specialist. As per the agreement, Lepton Global Solutions will become a wholly owned Kymeta subsidiary. Kymeta Executive Chairman Doug Hutcheson told SpaceNews that with the acquisition, Kymeta will deepen its expertise in offering communications services to U.S. government agencies that have expressed interest in purchasing an “entire connectivity solution” instead of hardware alone.

He added that Lepton, over the years, has done a great job at providing that solution. According to a report by SpaceNews, Kymeta president and chief operating officer, Walter Berger, called the Lepton acquisition an accelerator for where they would like to require the business in terms specifically of military or government-related activities. Berger said that current as well as prospective customers will be able to purchase Kymeta hardware alone or buy subscriptions covering hardware and managed services.

Beta testing of Kymeta u8 is scheduled to start this month and therefore the product is slated for commercial release within the fourth quarter of 2020. Berger also added that by acquiring Lepton, Kymeta improves its ability to offer managed services and run network operations centers. Kymeta is focused on making sure that its acquisition of Lepton does not cause ay inconvenience to their customers. Berger mentioned that Lepton will still continue to manage networks and provide customer service.
