A Heatwave or a landslide, extreme weather events are becoming more severe than before. Soaring temperature and high winds have increased the risks to property and lives. A robust system is required to bridge the knowledge gap around field data, whether it is Dry spells, droughts, or flood damage. Since these events are occurring more often now, a geospatial based data collection technique can provide better accessibility and understanding among government and policymakers.

The integration of weather data with GIS can address many underlying issues and help in resource planning and restoration. Geographic Information System allows easy sharing of coordinate information so the policymakers can build long term resilience to extreme weather events.

Incidents like heavy downpours, hurricanes, and heat waves are increasing in frequency. Experts predict more extreme events like severe winter storms and floods as a result of climate change in the coming years. Near real-time satellite data is very useful in revising and confirming forecasts of weather systems approaching the land from the oceans. They give a big picture of the upcoming severe storms.

NASA combines Airborne and Space-based platforms with National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to monitor extreme events. This data is made available to the public for planning resilience and mitigation.

High temperatures are the main reason for droughts that cause problems for crops and living beings. Warmer oceans, on the other hand, are a source of energy to pass storms by forming Hurricanes that can reach the land at high speeds. Instruments like MODIS on NASA's Aqua and Terra satellites gives a clear image of Typhoon and Snowstorms. NASA's Aqua and Terra satellites provide valuable information about thermal energy at the surface of Earth. They uncover the trends of climate change across the globe.

High Resolution remotely sensed data provide consistency for comparing longer time spans. Researchers and policymakers can compare the space-based temperature measurements with the ground data. Since the heat and drought conditions can also result in bush fires, understanding the temperature patterns is crucial.

Drone Technology 

Taking the help of Drone technology also has many advantages. They are easy to carry to the field. The fine controls of the drone make it easy to navigate and provide a quick check at the time of emergency like a flood. Drones give a close inspection of the assets present at the site and can even take photos and videos. 

Geospatial techniques are faster and more accurate as compared to ground-based data collection methods. They accelerate the process and reduce safety risks. Taking the help of a geospatial approach is crucial to developing a stronger plan of action for the present and future.
