Govt would ensure sustainable sand mining using mapping rivers by ISRO, says minister

Union minister for environment, forests and climate change Prakash Javadekar has said, the government would ensure sustainable sand mining using the mapping of each and every river in the country by the national space agency ISRO.

In an interaction with the students and researchers of the Salim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History in Coimbatore, he said the satellite mapping would help locate the riverbeds with abundant deposits of sand, which alone can be auctioned by the state governments for regulated mining.

Mr Prakash Javadekar said all the states have been asked to augment fodder and water resources within forests to avoid animal-human conflicts.
