According to a report by CNBC, Google announced that it is improving Google Maps in Apple CarPlay and on the Apple watch. Maps comes to the CarPlay Dashboard with the new Google Maps update. It is the primary home screen window, where one can see a lot of things at once for example, the calendar appointments, directions and even the music the user is playing.

Apple didn’t allow third-party mapping applications in this area until it issued an iPhone update in March. Earlier users could use Apple Maps on the Dashboard screen or had to just use Google Maps separately and without the added information that the Dashboard provides. CarPlay will let the user see some apps, place calls, talk to Siri and more in cars that support it. It will give a tough competition to Google’s Android Auto platform, which works on Android phones.

Google Maps turn-by-turn directions on Apple Watch

Google Maps’ turn-by-turn directions will launch on the Apple Watch anytime in the coming weeks. That means that the user can get directions on Google Maps and then look at their watch for the next step. It’s useful if they’re walking around town, biking or driving and don’t have maps up on their dashboard. Apple Maps already supports this, so it will just be a new option for people who prefer to use Google Maps.
