As the world rapidly evolves and various technologies become rapidly integrated, it is important to understand how each of them impacts the other. The effect of one technology on the other can lead to an improvement in its functioning and effectiveness. 

Here are five technologies that could impact the geospatial industry according to the UK Geospatial Commission:

Cameras, Imaging, and Sensing: As tech improves and evolves, the diversity in imaging devices increases through the breadth and depth of technology. Now, various devices are available for imaging different landforms and areas such as airborne sensing, underwater sensing, drone sensing, vehicle sensing and much more. 

The resolution of imaging has also improved. This has led to higher quality images that are more accurate and help in more informed decision making. Vehicle sensors are becoming increasingly popular with many public and private players using vehicle drive-by technology for mapping.

UAVs and Drones: Remote controlled, or autonomous aerial vehicles are very popular to collect and assess GIS data. They primarily move by sensing their environment and navigating with or without human interference. 

Drones are being increasingly incorporated in Earth Observation and Mapping. They are also being used for lightweight deliveries and are being tested as passenger carriages to transport people in the coming time.

Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality innovation is crucial to GIS growth in the future, and help us move towards a truly digital world. Augmented Reality is helping transport people to new geographic locations without them physically moving at all. 

While in its early stages right now, Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, and other immersive technologies show a lot of scope and potential for future collaboration with GIS with proper R&D.
