Esri and the United Nations Sustainable Development Solution Network (SDSN) announced that the 2020 ArcGIS StoryMaps Competition for sustainable development is now open. They believe that a story can effect change, influence opinion, and create awareness—and maps are an integral part of storytelling.

ArcGIS StoryMaps will allow user to integrate maps, data, and other multimedia content with text. It will enable them to tell a narrative about the world’s greatest challenges and highlight or inspire solutions. The competition seeks to encourage more awareness of the SDGs and drive the necessary action towards achieving them by submitting an original story that addresses one or more global goals.

Participants can create an original story that:

  • Proposes ideas for addressing hunger, poverty, climate change, or other global goals
  • Designs unique visualizations of existing data of the SDGs
  • Or shares stories of changemakers in their own communities

One can find story inspiration and SDG data, maps, and learning resources on the SDGs Today portal.

The submission deadline for the competition is November 25, 2020. The contest ends at 5:00 pm (PDT). Winners will be announced on February 2021. Three winners will be announced for each track.
